My first foray into leather! This is the Crescent Bag in regular size by Kandou Patterns. I’ve made this bag 3 times previously – a bonded nylon one is my current everyday carry.
I only had ¾” roller buckles, so I graded the strap from 1″ where it connects to the bag, to ¾” over about 10″ in length.
I had previously reworked the side connector pieces to accept 1″ straps as 1.5″ is too large for me. After I cut the strap I realized that 2-3oz. leather is a bit soft for a strap and it was stretching, so I cut another and sewed them together for more stability. I should have edge coated the strap but I didn’t have any matching paint.
I don’t have a skiver or hand tool to skive but after sewing this bag I realized I need one. Even with this lightweight leather there are spots that are very bulky. My machine can handle it but it will look better with the seam allowances skived.
